Storm Damage
Hail and Wind damage
Severe wind and hail storms are on the rise and affect larger geographic areas, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) informs. These natural disasters cause the greatest property loss in the United States. High winds and hail storms can be catastrophic for communities, ravaging hundreds or even thousands of homes and commercial properties. For you as a homeowner this means more chances for property loss and stress as you go through the time and budget strains of unplanned maintenance projects.
If you are not attentive, undetected damages after strong winds and hail will grow over time to bring a major strain on your budget. Blown off shingles, scraped protective granules and chopped shingle edges can cause your roof to deteriorate and fail prematurely. The same goes for your siding if it gets dented, chipped or cracked and for your gutters if they get clogged, sagging or even knocked down. Pay particular attention to AC unit dents because a hail damaged coil can lead to overheating or even the burning of the unit.
Storm Damage FAQs
1. What should I do if I suspect that I have suffered a loss from wind and hail damage?
Call us and we will have an A+ Roofing claims specialist conduct a free thorough inspection of your home. If temporary or emergency repairs are needed, we will make arrangements to secure your property to prevent further loss or damage. Our specialist will let you know his/her findings during the visit.
2. Who should I call to report the damage?
If you have already reported your claim to your insurance company, an A+ Roofing representative will assist you in the claims reporting process. Sometimes, you will receive a claim number immediately. At other times, you will need to wait. Once your carrier assigns you a claim number, let your A+ Roofing representative know so he/she may assist in streamlining the process for you.
3. Should I let my contractor see my building estimate?
To ensure that the scope of work includes all damages and that your needs are met at a price agreeable to both the insurance company and your contractor, you should give your A+ Roofing representative a copy of the estimate and authorize him/her to talk to your adjuster if necessary. Most adjusters welcome professional contractors who can help them finalize claims.
4. I have received my building estimate from my insurance company and I do not agree with the scope of work in the estimate and/or the adjuster’s assessment of damages. What should I do?
Just remember that during a catastrophe, an insurance adjuster can have as many as 4 – 7 homes a day to inspect. Because there is a higher volume of claims than usual, many adjusters may miss things. Our representatives take the necessary time to give you an accurate assessment of the scope of damages.
To make a fair and accurate evaluation, we use Xactimate, the software that all major insurance companies use. This ensures that you will receive the maximum amount of indemnifications allowed by your policy. If there are discrepancies between our estimate and that of your insurance company, your representative will assist you in requesting a re-inspection or in sending your insurance company a supplement letter with evidence of additional damages
